Peugeot E-5008 electric: here are the first official details of this car

Peugeot had announced it: the new E-3008 will be entitled to a more practical version, the E-5008. This new electric car will offer seven seats and three independent rear seats, which families should appreciate. The brand has just presented its first “teaser” video before its official presentation. Here it is.

When we went to discover the Peugeot E-3008, we noticed that the practical aspects had been sacrificed a little in favor of the extremely spectacular style – an opinion that was confirmed during our test.

Fortunately, the E-3008 will soon be supported by another electric SUV, which will focus on habitability and life on board. This will be the E-5008, of which Peugeot has just presented us with the first details before its formalization in the spring.

Seven independent seats

The video is short but tells us the essentials: the seven places are confirmed, which large families will appreciate. Second, good news: the rear seat of the E-3008 disappears in favor of three independent seats. Here too, this is appreciable for a family car, and, at the same time, allows easier access to the sixth and seventh seats.

This configuration was already present on the current Peugeot 5008, available in thermal versions, but the switch to electric could raise fears about the removal of this system, in particular, because of the slide systems, which increase the height and weight of the seats. This is not the case.

There are few details, but the presentation is coming

For the rest, neither the video nor the press release add other details. We will just see images of the dashboard, which, unsurprisingly, takes up the “Panoramic i-Cockpit” architecture with this large 21-inch curved panel that debuted on the E-3008.

This is entirely logical since, as with the previous generation, this E-5008 will only be an “XXL” version of the E-3008. The front should be extremely similar.

The profile will, however, be lengthened: a brand manager told us that the wheelbase, the distance between the front and rear wheels, will be extended by 16 cm compared to the E-3008, or 2.90 m. The rear part will be much straighter to be able to fit the two additional seats in the trunk.

This electric 5008 will therefore use the STLA Medium platform of the electric 3008 and should therefore receive two battery sizes: 73 kWh and 98 kWh, at least in their traction versions (front-wheel drive); perhaps the all-wheel drive version, which adds a rear engine, is not compatible with the third row of seats.

You will also have to expect a few kilometers less autonomy due to the few additional kilos and less advantageous aerodynamics than the electric 3008, which announces 527 km of autonomy on the WLTP cycle with the 73 kWh battery and aims for 700 km with the 98 kWh version.

We will know more during the official presentation of this E-5008, which will take place in March 2024.
