The MacBook Air M1: Abandoned by Apple, but reborn in the United States

In the fast-paced world of technology, obsolescence often follows innovation at a breakneck speed. This is especially true in the realm of Apple products, where the relentless pursuit of the "next big thing" can leave perfectly capable devices languishing in the shadows. Such was the fate of the M1 MacBook Air, a revolutionary laptop overshadowed by its more powerful siblings – the M2 and M2 Pro MacBook Air models. But in a surprising turn of events, the M1 MacBook Air is experiencing a resurgence in the United States, finding a new lease on life amongst budget-conscious consumers and specific user groups.

For the first time, Walmart is selling MacBooks in the United States at an unprecedented price. We are ready to hope for the same thing in Europe.

It is THE machine that relaunched Apple in the laptop market, putting it 4 years ahead of its competitors: the MacBook Air M1 bowed out two weeks ago with the announcement of the MacBook Air M3.

The first laptop to feature the M1 chip, making Apple Silicon the new master standard for chips, this MacBook Air remains a safe bet today. This is what Walmart in the United States understood, which partnered with Apple to sell the rest of the stock of MacBook Air M1s at an unbeatable price.

A MacBook Air M1 for less than 600 euros in the United States

It is through a press release (via The Verge ) that the Walmart store chain announced that it would sell MacBook Air M1s on its online site, but also in some of its local stores. The price: 699 dollars, or a little more than 640 euros for us. It's quite simple, even on sale, we have never seen this machine at this price.

In addition, these are not reconditioned models, but new machines, making the offer unbeatable for American buyers. At this price, Walmart unsurprisingly offers the base model with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Following this announcement, its competitor Best Buy also lowered the price of the MacBook Air M1 in its catalog to 649 dollars or less than 600 euros.

When will Europe come?

If we imagine that this partnership is temporary for Walmart, which should sell the remaining Apple stocks, we lend ourselves to dreaming of the same reductions in Europe and France. Currently, this M1 model can still be found for at least 940 euros from different brands.

Since the conversion is still to the disadvantage of the eurozone for Apple products, in particular, because of their importation, we should not expect such offers from us. But it would be an excellent strategy for the manufacturer to make room in its inventory and, above all, introduce more and more users to its ecosystem.
